₹1 करोड़।

सुनने में यह amount काफी बड़ा लगता है।

और retirement की बात आते ही अक्सर एक target सुनने को मिलता है:

“बस retirement तक ₹1 करोड़ हो जाए, फिर tension नहीं।”

लेकिन क्या ₹1 करोड़ सच में काफी होगा?

हो सकता है।
हो सकता है बिल्कुल न हो।

क्योंकि retirement planning में सबसे important सवाल यह नहीं है:

“मुझे ₹1 करोड़ कैसे बनाना है?”

पहला सवाल है:

“जिस lifestyle पर मैं आज जी रहा हूं, retirement के समय उसे maintain करने के लिए मुझे हर महीने कितने पैसे की जरूरत होगी?”

यहीं से retirement planning वास्तव में शुरू होती है।

पहले एक simple example समझते हैं

मान लीजिए आपकी age अभी 35 years है।

आप 60 की age में retire होना चाहते हैं।

आज आपके household expenses लगभग:

हैं।

पहली नजर में आप सोच सकते हैं:

“Retirement में home loan खत्म हो जाएगा, बच्चों की पढ़ाई भी पूरी हो जाएगी। ₹50,000–₹60,000 महीने में तो आराम से हो जाएगा।”

लेकिन यहां एक चीज quietly काम कर रही है:

Inflation.

अगर average inflation को सिर्फ illustration के लिए 6% मानें, तो आज के ₹50,000 जैसी purchasing power बनाए रखने के लिए 25 साल बाद करीब:

की जरूरत हो सकती है।

यानी lifestyle वही है।

Luxury नहीं बढ़ी।

फिर भी खर्च:

₹50,000 → लगभग ₹2.15 लाख

क्यों?

क्योंकि समय के साथ पैसे की purchasing power बदलती है।

यही कारण है कि retirement planning में आज के खर्च को देखकर future corpus तय नहीं किया जा

₹1 करोड़ बड़ा है... लेकिन Context के बिना अधूरा Number है

अब मान लीजिए 60 की age में आपके पास:

का retirement corpus है।

यह देखकर naturally confidence आएगा।

लेकिन अब दूसरा सवाल पूछिए:

इससे retirement के कितने साल चलाने हैं?

अगर आप 60 पर retire हुए और 85 तक financial planning करनी है, तो लगभग:

25 years

का retirement period है।

यानी ₹1 करोड़ सिर्फ पहले साल के लिए नहीं है।

इसी corpus से आने वाले कई वर्षों के:

  • household expenses

  • utilities

  • travel

  • insurance premiums

  • healthcare

  • repairs

  • lifestyle expenses

और unexpected expenses manage करने पड़ सकते हैं।

और retirement के बाद भी inflation बंद नहीं होती।

इसलिए:

Retirement Corpus = बड़ा Number नहीं, Future Expenses को लंबे समय तक fund करने की क्षमता है।

तो Retirement के लिए कितना पैसा चाहिए?

इसका कोई universal answer नहीं है।

किसी के लिए ₹1 करोड़ पर्याप्त हो सकता है।

किसी के लिए ₹3 करोड़ भी कम पड़ सकता है।

क्योंकि required corpus कई factors पर depend करता है।

इसे आसान तरीके से समझते हैं।

1. आज आपका Actual Monthly Expense कितना है?

Retirement calculation salary से शुरू नहीं होनी चाहिए।

Expenses से शुरू होनी चाहिए।

मान लीजिए आपकी monthly salary ₹1.5 lakh है।

लेकिन household और lifestyle expenses:

₹60,000

हैं।

Retirement में आपकी पूरी ₹1.5 lakh salary replace करना जरूरी नहीं हो सकता।

हमें पहले यह समझना है कि lifestyle चलाने में कितना खर्च होता है।

लेकिन यहां भी सिर्फ bank statement का total उठा लेना सही नहीं होगा।

Expenses को दो हिस्सों में देखें।

Retirement में शायद जारी रहने वाले खर्च

  • Groceries

  • Electricity

  • Maintenance

  • Transport

  • Healthcare

  • Insurance

  • Travel

  • Personal expenses

  • Entertainment

Retirement तक शायद खत्म हो जाने वाले खर्च

  • कुछ EMIs

  • Children's education

  • Work commute के कुछ खर्च

  • कुछ temporary obligations

इससे आपको ज्यादा realistic expense number मिलेगा।

2. अब उस Expense पर Inflation का असर समझें

मान लीजिए आज आपके retirement-relevant expenses हैं:

Current age: 40

Retirement age: 60

Time: 20 years

Illustrative inflation: 6%

Future monthly expense का simplified estimate होगा:

₹60,000 × (1.06)²⁰

जो लगभग:

होता है।

ध्यान दीजिए:

आपने lifestyle upgrade नहीं किया।

₹60,000 का आज का lifestyle ही future में लगभग ₹1.92 lakh मांग सकता है।

यही retirement calculation का वह हिस्सा है जिसे अक्सर underestimate किया जाता है।

3. Retirement एक दिन नहीं—20–30 साल की Journey हो सकती है

हम अक्सर retirement को एक date की तरह देखते हैं:

“60 साल में retire हो जाऊंगा।”

लेकिन financial planning के लिए retirement एक period है।

मान लीजिए:

Retirement age: 60

Planning age: 85

तो corpus को लगभग:

support करना पड़ सकता है।

और अगर life इससे लंबी हुई?

इसलिए retirement corpus calculate करते समय सिर्फ retirement की तारीख नहीं, retirement के बाद कितने वर्षों की planning करनी है, यह भी assumption जरूरी है।

इसे certainty नहीं बल्कि planning assumption समझें।

4. Retirement के बाद भी पैसा Invested रह सकता है

यहां एक और common misunderstanding है:

“अगर मुझे retirement में ₹3 करोड़ चाहिए, तो 60 की age में पूरा ₹3 करोड़ cash account में होना चाहिए।”

जरूरी नहीं।

Retirement के बाद भी corpus का कुछ हिस्सा आपकी जरूरत, risk capacity और asset allocation के अनुसार invested रह सकता है।

इसलिए retirement corpus calculation में आम तौर पर:

Inflation

और

Post-retirement return assumption

दोनों matter करते हैं।

लेकिन यहां बहुत aggressive return assumption लेना dangerous हो सकता है।

अगर calculator में return ज्यादा मान लिया:

Required corpus artificially छोटा दिख सकता है।

5. Healthcare को सिर्फ Current Expense में मत छिपाइए

हो सकता है।

Annual expense:

लगभग ₹25.8 lakh

अब यहां सिर्फ:

₹25.8 lakh × 25 years

कर देना भी सही retirement calculation नहीं होगा।

क्योंकि retirement के दौरान:

  • expenses पर inflation हो सकती है,

  • corpus पर returns मिल सकते हैं,

  • withdrawals होते रहेंगे,

  • asset allocation बदल सकता है।

इसलिए proper retirement calculator को इन factors को साथ में model करना चाहिए।

बिल्कुल।

अपना घर भी Retirement Corpus है?

यह थोड़ा tricky है।

मान लीजिए आपके पास retirement के समय ₹1.5 करोड़ का self-occupied house है।

क्या इसे retirement corpus में जोड़कर कह सकते हैं:

House ₹1.5 crore + Investments ₹1 crore = Retirement Corpus ₹2.5 crore?

हर situation में नहीं।

अगर आप उसी घर में रहेंगे और उसे बेचने या उससे income generate करने की योजना नहीं है, तो वह आपके monthly retirement expenses fund करने के लिए directly liquid asset नहीं है।

हां, वह आपकी overall Net Worth का हिस्सा है।

लेकिन:

Net Worth और Spendable Retirement Corpus एक ही चीज नहीं हैं।

यह distinction बहुत important है।

“मेरे पास Pension होगी”—तो क्या Corpus कम चाहिए?

हो सकता है।

अगर retirement के बाद reliable income source है, जैसे:

  • pension,

  • annuity,

  • rental income,

  • या कोई दूसरी recurring income,

तो आपके corpus से हर महीने पूरा expense निकालने की जरूरत शायद न पड़े।

उदाहरण:

Retirement monthly expense:

₹1.50 lakh

Reliable monthly pension:

₹50,000

तो investments से funding requirement roughly:

₹1 lakh/month

हो सकती है, before considering tax, inflation, income escalation and other factors.

इसलिए retirement planning में सिर्फ assets नहीं—

Future Income भी consider करें।

सबसे Dangerous Assumption: “बच्चे संभाल लेंगे”

Indian families में यह thought common है:

“Retirement के बाद खर्च बहुत कम होगा।”

या:

“बच्चे settle हो जाएंगे, जरूरत पड़ी तो वे देख लेंगे।”

Family support अच्छी बात है।

लेकिन financial plan ideally इस assumption पर dependent नहीं होना चाहिए।

Retirement planning का objective होना चाहिए:

जहां तक practical हो, अपनी financial independence maintain करना।

बच्चों की मदद bonus हो।

Plan की foundation नहीं।

अगर Required Corpus बहुत बड़ा निकल जाए तो?

मान लीजिए calculator ने दिखाया:

Estimated Requirement: ₹4 crore

और आपके पास अभी:

हैं।

पहला reaction हो सकता है:

“इतना तो कभी नहीं बनेगा।”

यहीं calculator का काम डराना नहीं, problem को actionable बनाना है।

₹4 crore को आज arrange नहीं करना।

आपके पास शायद:

20–25 years

हैं।

60 और 62 में सिर्फ 2 साल का फर्क दिखता है।

Financially इसके दो effects हो सकते हैं:

  1. Investment को दो साल और grow करने का समय।

  2. Corpus से withdrawals दो साल बाद शुरू।

इसलिए retirement age भी calculation का powerful variable है।

लेकिन retirement delay हमेशा possible या desirable होगा, यह assume नहीं करना चाहिए।

Retirement expenses estimate करते समय honest रहें।

अगर आज ₹80,000 खर्च है लेकिन उसमें:

₹20,000 EMI

₹10,000 children's education

₹5,000 office commute

है, तो शायद पूरा ₹80,000 retirement तक inflate करना उचित नहीं होगा।

इसीलिए हमने शुरुआत में कहा:

Current Expense नहीं—Retirement-Relevant Expense निकालें।

Retirement Planning में ये 5 Mistakes Avoid करें

1. Random Corpus Target चुनना

“₹1 करोड़ enough होगा।”

क्यों?

अगर इसका calculation नहीं है, तो यह financial goal नहीं—बस एक round number है।

2. Inflation Ignore करना

आज के ₹50,000 और 25 साल बाद के ₹50,000 की purchasing power समान नहीं होगी।

3. बहुत High Return Assume करना

Expected return बढ़ाते ही calculator required SIP कम दिखा सकता है।

Age 30 पर शुरू नहीं किया—अब Late हो गया?

नहीं, लेकिन delay का cost हो सकता है।

अगर किसी ने 25 पर शुरू किया और आपने 40 पर, तो दोनों के पास retirement तक समान compounding time नहीं है।

इसका मतलब यह नहीं:

“अब कुछ नहीं हो सकता।”

इसका मतलब है:

अब assumptions और contribution को ज्यादा realistically evaluate करना होगा।

Past में कब शुरू नहीं किया, वह बदला नहीं जा सकता।

नहीं।

यह भी important है।

Retirement planning को किसी एक product से जोड़ देना oversimplification होगा।

कौन-सा combination appropriate है, यह depend करेगा:

  • time horizon

  • liquidity requirement

  • existing investments

उनमें से identify करें:

Retirement के बाद भी कौन-से expenses रहेंगे?
